A PMO spokesperson said the Prime Minister “congratulates A R Rahman, Resul Pookutty (sound engineer), Gulzar (lyricist), and entire Slumdog Millionaire team for the success at the Oscars,”
The film bagged eight awards including two Oscars for Rahman for Best Original Score and Best Song for the song “Jai Ho”, which was penned by lyricist Gulzar.
An elated Rahman who won the Academy Awards for best original score and song from the film Slumdog Millionaire said, “I want to thank everyone. The essence of the film is optimism and hope. All through my life I had the choice of love and hate…I chose love and I am here.”

Slumdog gets 8 Oscar awards

The flick has not only earned the Best Director gong for Danny Boyle, but also the Best Film award. It also bagged awards for Original score, Original song, Film Editing,
Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing.

Jai Ho… in Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire

Rahman wooed the audience with ‘O Saya’ and ‘Jai Ho…’ the nominated songs from ‘Slumdog…’, as the nominees for Best Original Song were being announced. The awards took Slumdog’s tally to seven so far.

Rahman bags 2 and Slumdog 6 Oscars

Jessica Biel: White fright
This is a clear case of when bad clothes happen to good people. The usually beautiful Jessica looks frumpy in her ivory Prada gown. The dress does nothing for the actress’s curvy frame and ends up making her look bulky. She does get her make up and hair spot on though.
Beyonce: Garish gown
Let’s hope the Survivor singer survives this outfit! The curvy actress looks uncomfortable and stiff in this garish printed gown. The design doesn’t suit her ample assets but her saving grace is her make up and tightly pulled back hair. Now that’s stylish!
Amanda Seyfried: Bow down
Wearing a brick red Valentino gown with an over the top bow, the usually pretty actress looks like she put this outfit together at the last minute. The dress doesn’t fit her well and camouflages her svelte figure.
Tilda Swinton: Mix and match
Swinton is obviously fashionable challenged. The actress mismatches her ruffled skirt and flowing top and to add to the misery, looks like she’s going to trip over her skirt!
Sophia Loren: Ruffled up!
Golden girl Sophia looks a little too ruffled in gold gown. The dress would have looked better on her about 20 years ago but with her bouffant hair it just seems like a little too much. But, one thing’s for sure, Sophia’s still got the charm that would make any man weak at the knees.
Mellisa Leo: Misses the mark
We don’t know where to begin… should we start with the colour of the gown? Or perhaps the way in which it offers no support to the actress? Either way, the gown is all wrong for the red carpet!
Bridget Fonda: Boring Bridget
She’s known for her stunning figure but the dress she chose for the Oscars got us wondering where it is! The shapeless gown is bland and terribly boring. Even her hair and make up looks like the actress couldn’t be bothered!

On the red carpet. Danny Boyle is asked the usual questions: How do you feel etc. “I’m so pleased to get so many people here,” Danny said with the crew around him, Rubina Ali, Ayush and Azharuddin. “It’s fantastic. Lots more at home watching. It was a big family making that movie.”
Dev Patel is asked: “You’re 18 and alread on the carpet, where do you go from here?”
He said: “Amazing feeling, but these guys (pointing to the kids) are the real stars.”
Frieda said she’d promised the kids she’d take them to Miley Cyrus but that hasn’t happened…

Congratulations! Second win for Slumdog Millionaire

In his acceptance speech he thanked Danny Boyle and the team of Slumdog Millionaire. “I would like to thank thousands of people, can’t name them all. I would like to thank the Academy, all the people who worked on Slumdog Millionaire and all the people I have worked with in my career, my wife Anna, my kids, my brother John, my sister Annie, my ma and pa and Danny Boyle who started it all.”
He received the award from the lovely Natalie Portman and a bearded Ben Stiller.
The Reader, Changeling, The Dark Knight and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button were the other films nominated in the category.
Anthony Dod Mantle is known for his digital photography and the way he captured Mumbai’s slum life was nothing short of spectacular. He has previously worked on Lars Von Trier’s Dogville and 28 Days Later (also directed by Danny Boyle), among many other films.
The BAFTA is one of the many awards Mantle has won for Slumdog Millionaire. And now he has an Oscar.
