Racist attacks in Australia a shame, says Aamir

addthis_pub = ‘nowrunning’;

New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Bollywood star Aamir Khan has called the attacks on Indians in Australia “a shame”, a couple of days after megastar Amitabh Bachchan turned down the offer of an honorary degree from an Australian university in the wake of the attacks.

“(It is) most disturbing to hear about racist attacks on Indians living in Australia. Quite a shame,” Aamir stated on his blog http://www.aamirkhan.com.

The actor, who has just returned from a two-month sabbatical with his kids, feels it calls for immediate action.

“While this doesn’t mean that all Australians are racists, the frequency and seriousness of such attacks I think calls for an extraordinary reaction from the Australian authorities. And while we want action to be taken by authorities in Australia, we should remember all the crimes against foreigners who visit India,” he added.

Aamir’s reaction came after news of Shravan Kumar, an automobile engineering student from Andhra Pradesh, being attacked by two youths in Melbourne was splashed all over, inviting a lot of people to debate on the safety of Indian students in Australia.

“Let us hope and pray that Shravan recovers soon,” said Aamir.

There has been a spate of attacks on Indian students in Sydney and Melbourne, including at least three serious attacks.

1989 Aamir Khan Starrer Raakh Revamped for a 2009 Release

Posted in Aamir Khan, News on May 21, 2009 by nrmodh

aamir khan raakh movie

A film’s fate is left to audience; be it a typical Bollywood masala or an off beat one. But here, Aamir Khan is testing audience taste, if it had changed over 20 years’ time. If you didn’t get what I am saying, then here it is! Aamir Khan’s off beat movie Raakh that was released almost 20 years back and bombed at the box office without clues is releasing with digitalization of visual and sound effects.

Raakh is all set to release once again on June 12. The film was released during its first attempt in 1989 with few prints in barely 3 cities. The lead cast include Aamir Khan, Supriya Pathak (remember this girl who must have charmed our dads?), Pankaj Kapoor, Naina Balsawer.

It was Aamir Khan’s sister Nuzhat Khan who had scripted the film along with dialogues. Ah! Yes! Nuzhat Khan is Imran Khan’s momma. The film is released as joint enterprise of Audacity International and Storm Enterprises. Raakh’s director Aditya Bhatacharya and co-producer Asif Noor are asking for a stake in the movie. Revamped Raakh is expected to be a box office blitzkrieg, just like any Aamir Khan movie as of now.

If Raakh becomes a success it will open up revamp series in Bollywood for sure. But I am wondering as to how it might feel to see Aamir as young 25 + year old on a digital format! We will update the preview with trailer when it is available, keep watching here.

Aamir on pleasure trip

Posted in Aamir Khan, News on April 20, 2009 by nrmodh
thumb.cmsfhjfhj Aamir Khan, who has flown to North America with his son Junaid and daughter Ira, will return to Mumbai on April 30 to cast his vote.

He will then fly out immediately with wife Kiran Rao for another month long holiday overseas. The reason Kiran couldn’t join Aamir and his two kids right away is because she is busy with the post production of her film Dhobi Ghat and wanted uninterrupted work time. It’s also untrue that Aamir has delayed the shooting of Raju Hirani’s Three Idiots.

When he committed his dates to them, the meticulous actor — who plans even a toilet break with precision — had already told his director of his vacation time between April and June 2009.

Actors breaking the stereotypes!

Posted in Aamir Khan, akshay kumar, News, Priyanka Chopra, Shahrukh khan on April 15, 2009 by nrmodh

The Hindi film industry has had a tendency to typecast its actors. If any actor tended to do a certain genre of films, he or she got branded and also received similar offers from across the board in the filmdom…Once a vamp, always a vamp, once a sister, always a sister… once a father always a father…. once a cop… always a cop… but now cinema is no more in the Stone Age. Actors are now being accepted in different roles…

SRK

When the stammering Shah Rukh came to Mumbai after receiving a call from Hema Malini’s office, little did he know that his dream of turning actor would soon turn him into the king of Hindi films. Though he started his career as a romantic hero, his ambition to make it big compelled him to explore grey shades as well. The actor took on an anti-hero role in Baazigar and was given more ones with Darr and Anjaam as well. A string of action roles followed with the bloody Chahat too. But then it took the Yash Raj camp who gave him movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, to get SRK branded as the eternal lover boy – usually named Rahul or Raj. Yet SRK’s acting skills got much appreciated in the subtle and serious roles in recent movies like Swades and Chak De! India.

Akshay Kumar

The industry has always been quick to label actors. But only some actors have succeeded in breaking free from their given image. Since the time that martial arts ace Akshay Kumar stepped into the film industry, he was tagged as the action hero. He gave a string of flops and then went on to be a star with Khialdi. A series of action flicks and he was the Last Action Hero in moviedom.

After saturating with many action packed movies, Akshay tried his luck as a romantic hero and some good boy roles packed with emotions. And the success that eluded him and critics who called him a piece of furniture disappeared like the bad boys he beat up. Then came Hera Pheri and voila! Hindi cinema found a new surprise comic hero in the same tough Akshay. From then onwards, the story of Akshay’s comedy hits is continuing. Awara Paagal Deewana, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, Hey Babyy, Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiya to name ‘just a few’. Today, when his career is at an all time high, Akshay is back at what he is best in – as an action hero with Tashan and 8×10 Tasveer.

Bebo’s brand image

Bollywood’s celebrated size-zero actress Kareena Kapoor got a lucky head start in her career with Refugee. For a long time, Bebo was saddled with the next-door-girl image. That is, until she transformed into a glam doll, in films like Fida and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Just when she thought she would have been stereotyped again, came films like Chameli and Omkara. And Kareena proved that she is also a versatile Kapoor. And after a simple film like Jab We Met where she stopped doing all these by now infamous facial distortions, she has now shown that she can carry off any image with ease. Just in time comes Yash Raj movie Tashan where she will be seen in an out and out action role… a tad similar to her role in Asoka.

Priyanka Chopra

After Miss World title, Bebo’s on-again, off-again friend Priyanka Chopra’s ticket was Hindi film industry. Priyanka became the icon of style, glamour and oomph. Hardly anyone would have thought that Piggy Chops can do anything else except glamorous roles. But answering all these accusations, Priyanka is changing her image slowly and steadily. After the action oriented role in Don, she was seen in a sci-fi film and also as a bodyguard (Drona and Love Story 2050 respectively). And now with her Fashion doing superb, suddenly, Priyanka is all over the place and bagging all the Best Actress awards this year.

Aamir Khan

The original ‘chocolate boy’, Aamir Khan’s first film was an instant hit. And he was all over the place with his poster boy image. After years of standard lover boy image, not only did his fans but Aamir himself must have got bored. He

then became a face of patriotism with films like Sarfarosh, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and then did a volte face as a terrorist with Fanaa breaking the same image that he had set. The actor tried to get into a social mould with Taare Zameen Par but Ghajini was a shocker for his fans. A rugged, rough, and tough body is something, which was never associated with this petite handsome man, but Aamir proved that change is the only constant thing in this world. Whatever is the reason for change in image of these stars be, their fans seem to love them in their new avatars and it is definitely a treat to see them move on.

What’s happening in Bollywood!

Posted in Aamir Khan, Events, Hrithik Roshan on April 13, 2009 by nrmodh

No Aamir for two months, Lara and Neha go white and Hrithik’s a repeat offender!

Garmi ki Chhuthi for Aamir

He maybe a superstar but he still needs a break. Aamir Khan updated his blog at 5.36am this morning saying that he was off on a summer break for two months for his kids and would be “going to go off the map for the next two months.”
But Khan remembered to leave an important message for the people: To all Indians, remember to vote, and make an informed choice, meaning, check out all the candidates from your area before you decide who to vote for.
Also, you probably have heard by now that all film producers and distributors have decided not to release any films in any Indian national multiplex chains until we get fair terms, and they stop bullying us, and they stop all irregularities. So please bear with us.

Neha Dhupia turned camerawoman as she launched a new range of Canon cameras at ITC Parel

Hello Hello

A saree clad Lara launches the new Aircel GSM prepaid mobile card at Taj Lands End

White Magic

Both Neha and Lara, who launched different products on the same day, chose to wear white in different styles. Neha’s frilly and lacy dress is summery and girly while the leggy Lara looks pretty and graceful in her rose embellished off white sari. We like her subtle make up too. So here’s a tip from the fashionable two to beat the heat with pastel shades!

Bring home the action

Aamir celebrates the success of the Ghajini DVD. The two disc collectors’ edition disc launched on his birthday (March 14) and has gone on to top the home video charts since then.

Repeat Offender Hrithik

If you thought superstars never repeat their clothes, think again. The gorgeous Hrithik Roshan doesn’t mind repeating his favourite shirts. He wore the bright red shirt to the Poison launch in October last year and to the premiere of Slumdog Millionaire in January this year

And here too!

Hrithik loves his sea green shirt. He first wore it to the Star Screen awards in January and to the Ambika Hinduja-Raman Macker wedding in February.
But what to do? We still love our Duggu – even if he commits the most un-cool fashion faux pas!

Aamir Khan gets even with SRK

Posted in Aamir Khan, News, Shahrukh khan on March 12, 2009 by nrmodh

The usually reticent Aamir Khan opens a new front in the war between the Khans. Two days away from his 44th birthday, Aamir Khan has a new resolution: The star who was recently anointed this year’s most powerful man in Bollywood by Filmfare, has decided that each time his closest contender Shah Rukh Khan takes a pot-shot at him, he will respond in kind.

With barbs from SRK accumulating, Aamir decides to bare his soul and his fangs in an exclusive interview to this newspaper. “I remember him (Shah Rukh) saying that he was joking about calling himself No 1. I find it very funny as I have never seen anyone proclaiming themselves as No 1. Not Sachin Tendulkar, Not Lata Mangeshkar, not Vishwanathan Anand. I am saying all this in a lighter vein too.But Shah Rukh’s sense of humour suddenly disappears when it comes to me.”

At another point in the hour-long interview, Aamir observes that because his recent films have not been doing well at the box office, Shah Rukh Khan seems to have become an embittered man.

With this new front opening, the battle lines in Bollywood have just been redrawn. Never one to take things lying down, fiesty Shah Rukh Khan will soon be jousting for supremacy.

Aamir Khan to remake Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump!

Posted in Aamir Khan, News, Photos: on January 29, 2009 by nrmodh

If things go Aamir Khan’s way, his fans might have an opportunity to see him remake the Hollywood blockbuster Forrest Gump!

The movie has impressed Aamir so much that on being asked which film he would choose to do as a Hindi remake after Ghajini, he says, “It’s Tom Hanks‘ Forrest Gump. I have seen this film. It’s a wonderful movie. Tom Hanks has done a fantastic job. If I get an opportunity to do a remake, it has to be Forrest Gump.”

Forrest Gump is the story of a man with a low IQ. He has accomplished great things in his life and been present during significant historical events. But despite all that he has achieved, his one true love eludes him.

The film is a 1994 comedy-drama based on the 1986 novel by Winston Groom.

According to an estimate, the film turned out to be a huge commercial success, earning US$677 million worldwide. It became the top grossing film in North America released that year. The film won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Director, (Robert Zemeckis), and Best Actor (Tom Hanks).

Every bit of the film is shot with so much of precision that that Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan can’t think of any other film for a perfect remake. Talking about the aspects of remakes, he feels that every film doesn’t qualify for a good remake.

His currently running movie Ghajini is also a remake of the Tamil film of the same name and Aamir says that the concept of 15 minutes of memory loss impressed him very much.

“This concept has not been used in any Bollywood film so far. So It impressed me very much and that’s why I thought of working in it. From my point of view Forrest Gump is also a very good film for a Hindi-remake.”

Taare Zameen Par does not go forward at Oscars

Posted in Aamir Khan, Events, News on January 15, 2009 by nrmodh

Nine films have advanced to the next round of voting in the foreign language film category for Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced.

The list includes the recent Golden Globe winner for foreign language film, the acclaimed Israeli animated documentary “Waltz with Bashir”, about the country’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982, as well as the German film the “Baader Meinhof Complex”, a unique look into that country’s notorious terrorist group, the Red Army Faction.

The other seven films are “Revanche” (Austria), “The Necessities of Life” (Canada), “The Class” (France), “Departures” (Japan), “Tear This Heart Out” (Mexico), “Everlasting Moments” (Sweden) and “3 Monkeys” (Turkey).

The films were chosen by a committee of several hundred Academy members and will be whittled down to five 2008 nominees by specially selected committees in New York and Los Angeles. The committee members will spend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday viewing three of the films each day before the nominations are announced on January 22.

This means it’s the end of the run for Aamir Khan-directed movie, “Taare Zameen Par”, which was India’s official entry in this category.

The Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented on February 22, 2009.
