Priyanka Chopra gets discharged!

Priyanka Chopra, who had to be rushed to the hospital after she complained of severe stomach pain on early Saturday morning, being discharged from the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Monday morning. A pale looking Priyanka left the hospital with her father Ashok Chopra.

Of late, Piggy Chop’s health seems to be fragile as she had also fainted a couple of days earlier on the sets of her forthcoming film, What’s Your Raashee? Priyanka constantly had visitors during her stay at the hospital including beau Shahid Kapur who spent some quality and quantity time with her on Saturday. Interestingly, Shahid’s parents Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak Kapur too visited Priyanka, clearly sending signals that she is very much part of Shahid’s family.

However, her once ‘best friend’ Hurman Baweja stayed away from visiting her, as he is said to be currently shooting.

So the grapevine now insists that it’s officially ‘over’ between Hurman Baweja and his gorgeous galpal Priyanka Chopra,eh?

Well… maybe… if we’re to read between the lines of the quotes given out by these two guarded (ex) lovebirds. But we’ve not given up on this jodi yet, dahlings. Not if the next schedule of their movie(s) is anything to go by. The duo are off to Chicago for a month, to film with Ashutosh Gowariker for his next, What’s Your Rashee?. And knowing the bitter winter of Chicago, with its minus temperatures and freezing wind-chills, this time of the year; Hurman and PC may just look to each other for some familiar warmth.

Like Hurman told ZOOM in a very exclusive chat, “Actually, the media has me confused whether I’ve broken up with Priyanka or not. Sometimes they break us up, sometimes they patch us up, and then there are times when they even get us engaged. The real scene is that we are very good friends and will always remain so. In fact, I’m looking forward to this entire Chicago schedule with her.” Well, well, guys, we’ll merely read between the lines. And as for the ‘warmth’, that’s what friends are for, na? And frankly, not many get ‘hotter’ than our Priyanka, haan?

Movie Review : Victory

VICTORY is a strictly average fare. Barring a few moments in the second hour, there’s not much that you carry home.

LAGAAN and IQBAL are landmark films on cricket. The response to LAGAAN specifically was so electrifying [and emotional] that theatres turned into stadiums during the penultimate cricket match in the film.

VICTORY traverses a different route altogether: This one revolves around a cricketer, talks of the highs and lows in his life, how greed, arrogance and lust almost ruin his career, but how he regains his lost form and becomes a hero all over again.

The difference also lies in the fact that the sportsmen in the film aren’t actors, pretending to be cricketers, but real-life cricketers. And that makes the goings-on identifiable.

VICTORY may not be a true-life account of any one person, but you can’t help but draw parallels with people who led a wild life off the field. Also, any sports-based film works if it arouses the right emotions and VICTORY does so towards the final moments. But there’s a hitch. The film could’ve done with a shorter running time [instead of approx. 2.35 hours] and a tight script. More on that later!

Final words? A few interesting moments don’t really help. This one tries to hit a boundary, but ends up taking a single.

However, the glam and glitter makes the young, vulnerable Vijay stray from his true vocation of cricket. Unfortunately, this leads to a loss of focus and to a miserable drop in his performance. But by the time Vijay realizes his mistake, he finds himself thrown out of the Indian cricket team. Suddenly, the hero becomes a villain in everyone’s eyes. His father [Anupam Kher] suffers a paralytic stroke.

This tragedy awakens Vijay’s conscience. He wants to redeem himself in the eyes of his father and every Indian. Against great odds, he once again makes it back to the Indian team and gets to play in the finals of the Champion’s Trophy against Australia, where he plays a stellar role in enabling India to win the Trophy.

Ajitpal Mangat chooses a difficult subject for his directorial debut. Placing immense trust on a newcomer [Hurman] and casting real-life characters could be tough and demanding, besides being expensive [cricketers' fees and paying for the various stadiums]. But Ajitpal achieves the required results.

The initial moments are very mediocre, but the pace picks up when Hurman goes astray, when he can’t digest success, when he falls into wrong hands [Gulshan Grover]. The graph is erratic; sometime interesting, at times boring. However, what rescues the film from failing are the penultimate moments, especially the one when Hurman faces the final ball.

On the flip side, the writing isn’t convincing at several points. The first 30 minutes of the enterprise makes you break into a yawn, frankly. Also, the film is stretched in the second hour for no reason and could’ve done with some tight editing. The songs in this hour are a big deterrent.

Ajitpal Mangat makes a confident debut as a director, but VICTORY would’ve made a stronger impact if the writing [screenplay: Ajitpal Mangat, Kannan Iyer] would’ve been watertight. Anu Malik’s music is listless. Barring ‘Balla Utha’ and ‘Money Money’, the remaining songs are of the fast-forward type. Cinematography is excellent.

Hurman S. Baweja displays the required confidence. He gets the body language right, looks dapper when required and conveys the required emotions well. Only thing, he needs to control his expressions at times. Amrita Rao does very well, although this isn’t her film actually. Anupam Kher gets it right yet again, especially towards the second hour when he suffers a paralytic stroke. Gulshan Grover is very effective.

On the whole, VICTORY is a strictly average fare. Barring a few moments in the second hour, there’s not much that you carry home.

Priyanka’s all praise for Amrita

It’s not everyday that B-town actresses appreciate the performances of their contemporaries.

But Priyanka Chopra and Amrita Rao seem to be an exception to this rule. The two actresses recently caught up during a special show of Victory which stars Hurman S Baweja opposite Amrita. An insider revealed that Priyanka loved Amrita’s performance in the film and couldn’t wait to tell her that. The source says, “Priyanka liked Amrita’s performance so much that after the screening she went up to her and told her how much she appreciated her work in the film. Amrita was quite touched to hear that from Priyanka and the two ladies were inseparable as they chatted amicably for a long time after that.”

All this even when rumours of Amrita being the new gal in Hurman’s life — which till now revolved around Priyanka — are doing rounds! Must say some actors can look beyond competition. Way to go girls!

Priyanka goes solo, for the time being

We know this one has been reported several times before, but we can’t help it. The news about Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja (pictured above) splitting just keeps surfacing every few months.

The couple is known to have lovers’ tiffs, and the minute they are spotted solo, the press writes their relationship off. However, they soon get back together and go about making joint appearances at public events, putting all speculations to rest.

All these years that they have been together, neither of them has acknowledged their relationship, but they have stuck by each other’s side, even when not promoting their film together, letting that togetherness do all the talking.

But off late, they have been seen doing their own thing. The two have been keeping to themselves while shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker’s “What’s Your Rashee?”. Then, Priyanka turned up for Hrithik’s birthday party alone, and reportedly even looked a bit low.

Meanwhile, there have been whispers of Harman getting close to his “Victory” co-star Amrita Rao, while Priyanka is said to be getting very friendly with her “Kaminay” co-star Shahid Kapur.

We guess we just have to closely watch their next few public appearances to know for sure about the status of the Priyanka-Harman relationship.
