Abhi-Ash embarrassed by Sallu’s love interest

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, News on May 21, 2009 by nrmodh
Salman Khan’s latest love interest, Claudia Ciesla, has put Abhishek and Aishwarya in an embarrassing situation.

Claudia, who’s a German model-actress and has also been a Playmate, had her photograph clicked with Abhishek while they were in Cannes. Soon thereafter, the photo appeared in a Mumbai newspaper along with the story that Abhishek was seen chatting with wife Ash’s ex-boyfriend’s current love interest!

The Bachchans were in for a shock when they found out about Ciesla’a past and the fact that even a nude image of hers had adorned the cover of a German magazine.

Abhishek could not recollect getting this picture taken. After some time he realised it was just one of the many photographs he and his wife got clicked with fans.

So now, as a precautionary measure, Ash and Abhi will be saying no to all fans wanting to get photographed with them, at least for the time being.

Bollywood copies even voting plea!

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, News on April 22, 2009 by nrmodh

Nothing’s original in Bollywood: even the heart-rending appeal by our stars to vote.

Produced by Karan Johar and director by Tarun Mansukhani, the video asking people to vote, called ‘Kuch nahin ho sakta‘ is lifted from a Hollywood original made before the presidential elections Obama won.

Both videos encourage the viewers not to vote, saying that change never happens. The Hollywood version opens with Leonardo Dicaprio saying “Please, just don’t vote.” The desi version has Abhishek Bachchan saying: “Kuchch nahin ho sakta is desh ka.”

After that various stars talk about how we often hear that. “Kitni zubanon say suna hai” (Kareena)”; “Kitni zubano mein suna hai (Karan Johar)”.

Both videos end up asking people to take charge and vote.

The copycat version has biggies including Ranbir Kapoor, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Imran Khan, Shahid Kapur, Farhan Akthar, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Asin and Priyanka Chopra.

The original also has major stars including Dustin Hoffman, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Silverman.

We wonder when Bollywood will have an original idea.

Abhi-Ash off on wedding anniversary holiday

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, News on April 20, 2009 by nrmodh

ashabhiapril16_full Bollywood’s most talked about married couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai won’t be in India for their second wedding anniversary on Monday (April 20). They have taken off on a week-long holiday to an undisclosed destination.

“Last year Abhishek was slogging it out in Miami for ‘Dostana’ and Aishwarya joined him there for their wedding anniversary. This year they were again supposed to be working, though happily together, for the next schedule of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavan’ on their anniversary,” a source close to the couple told IANS.

But Ratnam, who was admitted to a private hospital on Wednesday following breathing difficulty and dizziness, has been advised by doctor to rest for a while as a result the the schedule of “Raavan” has been slightly pushed ahead giving the pair a chance to go for a much-needed holiday.

“In fact, Mani Ratnam had suggested he’d start the schedule later to give Abhishek and Aishwarya a chance to take time off for their anniversary. But the couple had refused. It’s only now when the schedule is pushed ahead that they’ve decided to take that anniversary holiday,” said the source.

Mani Ratnam went off to hospital quietly

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, News on April 20, 2009 by nrmodh

maniapril18_fullFilmmaker Mani Ratnam first complained of uneasiness and then left the recording studio and checked himself quietly into the Apollo Hospital on his own, says Lyricist Gulzar.

“Mani complained of uneasiness. We presumed it to be nothing more than creative anxiety. We all get restless and nervous when we are working intensely an a project. We had no clue it was a health issue,” Gulzar told IANS on Friday (April 17).

“Yes, Mani just left the venue of the recording and quietly got himself admitted into hospital.”

The multilingual filmmaker was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following breathing difficulty and dizziness. Ratnam was in Chennai working on a song for his film “Raavan” with Gulzar and composer A.R. Rahman when the health scare occurred.

Filmmaker Shaad Ali, who is assisting Ratnam on “Raavan”, was also present there.
The director was revved up as Gulzar and Rahman argued and collaborated over the perfect words for the tune. However, after a while a fidgety and restless Ratnam sneaked out of the recording, left the studio alone and checked himself quietly into the Apollo Hospital.
That, according to Mani’s close friends, is the filmmaker’s style. He never draws attention to himself.

There was a sudden panic among the friends and well-wishers of Ratnam since he has a history of heart ailment.

“Thankfully, it was nothing serious at all. Though I wasn’t allowed to visit him in hospital Shaad did visit him on Wednesday. Mani was just fine, laughing, joking and talking nineteen to the dozen,” Gulzar said.

“We’re all very much relieved and happy. And on to top it all, the song that we were recording when Mani had a health scare has turned out beautifully. It’s a proud moment. To my relief I’m told Mani is well enough to be out of hospital very soon.”

Sources say the next schedule of “Raavan”, which is on April 20, might be delayed by a few days. Ratnam, known to be a workaholic, is expected to be back to the gruelling outdoor schedule in Kerala as soon as the doctors allow him to do so.

“He’s already talking about keeping his date with his next schedule. But that seems unlikely,” said a source from the “Raavan” crew.

Mani Ratnam’s illness gives Abhi-Ash time together

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, News on April 19, 2009 by nrmodh

If you wanted to greet the first couple of Bollywood- Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – on their wedding anniversary, you may be disappointed. Sources confirm that Ash-Abhi won’t be in town on April 20 when they celebrate their second wedding anniversary. The family, including Amitabh and Jaya, are debating whether the couple should go to Europe or the United States.

Europe, especially Italy, is Jaya Bachchan’s favourite holiday destination. She even has a villa in Florence where she stays during her visits. A source close to the family reveals, “Jaya is suggesting they fly to Florence and spend the day there, while Amitabh is coming up with the idea of a US trip. They haven’t yet taken the final call but it will be one of the two destinations.”

Both Abhishek and Aishwarya have been working super hard for Mani Ratnam’s film Raavan for the past few months. Now that Mani was hospitilised for exhaustion, they have the opportunity to take a break while he recuperates. “This will be the first time in a very long time that they will get to take a vacation. They haven’t been on a holiday ever since their marriage,” says the source.

Last year, the couple didn’t celebrate their one year anniversary due to the demise of Abhishek’s grandmother Teji Bachchan. The source says, “They won’t be at Jalsa this year, there is definitely a mini vacation being planned.”

Abhi-Ash To Celebrate 2nd Wedding

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, News on April 15, 2009 by nrmodh
0143040_aish_abhi14

This April 20th it will be two years from the time Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai said ‘I do’ to each other. Just as we expect the couple will take some time off their busy schedules and celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary with their family. We hear that the couple has just no time for celebration.

Abhishek and Aishwarya are working in Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming bilingual Ravana, which is a modern day adaptation of the epic Ramayan.

A source reported, “The couple had planned a quiet day with a small get-together with parents Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan . But little did they know that their Mani Sir (read Mani Ratnam ) had other plans chalked out for the day.

Ratnam, reportedly, was in no mood to slacken the ongoing shooting schedule of his Ravana in the south and had planned a shoot for April 20 for both Ash and Abhi. As the schedule can’t be delayed, the husband-wife duo cordially agreed to work on their second wedding anniversary.

So there’s going to be no celebration, no family get-together for Ash and Abhi as they mark two years of their life has husband and wife. However, the big consolation is that they would be together on the special day.”

Sad! Wish they could makeup for that by having a quiet romantic dinner together

From luck by chance to instant stardom!

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham on April 15, 2009 by nrmodh

Luck is a major factor in determining a nobody’s rise to instant stardom in Bollywood. There are many instances in the Hindi film industry where one’s casual refusal to do a certain role has made another a star. As rightly showed in Zoya Akhtar’s directorial debut Luck By Chance, Vikram (Farhan Akhtar) becomes a star after his film, which was dumped by star actor Zafar Khan (Hrithik Roshan), becomes a huge hit. While many refuse scripts on the pretext of substantial roles, others just don’t like the script. But it has always helped a mere first-timer to prove his talent and excel in it too.

The most significant replacement bid of all time was Zanjeer. Prakash Mehra’s fiery script couldn’t impress the likes of Dev Anand, Dharmendra and Raj Kumar to don the grease paint for the film. The role of a righteous, incensed cop with a tumultuous past didn’t seem interesting to these stalwarts who wanted many changes to be made in the script suiting their image. While Dharmendra chickened out on the pretext of date issues, Dev Anand wanted to turn it into a musical and Raj Kumar wanted it to be shot in Chennai.

Finally on Pran’s insistence, who played the role of Sher Khan in the film, Prakash Mehra reluctantly signed a virtually unknown lanky actor riding on seven flops, Amitabh Bachchan. And rest as they say was history with the film becoming a big success and the emergence of a superstar for whom no role is difficult to portray. Amitabh Bachchan also became synonymous to the famous epithet of ‘The Angry Young Man’ of Bollywood. The man is yet to age at 66 and gets role tailor-made for him even today!

Same thing happened during the filming of Don. Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, and Dharmendra refused to do the film because they were too conscious of their image. Don was a story of a smuggler and a Police Inspector’s drive to bring him to book by getting a duplicate placed in his place when the real Don dies. Since the lead character had grey shades, the stalwarts backed out as they thought it might tarnish their goody-two-shoes image in the audience’s mind. And so Amitabh Bachchan volunteered to step in and Don became Big B’s one of the most enticing film ever.

It might sound as if it was just Amitabh Bachchan who had all the luck of being at the right place at the right time. But it’s not true. Even our Baadshah was lucky by chance when he bagged Darr. Shah Rukh Khan became a sensation, though as an anti-hero, with Darr. In fact, he was the first actor who initiated his Bollywood career with negative roles, First Baazigar and then Darr. Coming to the latter, Darr was a Yash Chopra film. So quite obviously, whoever is associated with it, will benefit from it all through his/her life. But Aamir Khan thought otherwise. He too was conscious of his image with the public. Post Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Dil, he became the chocolate hero of all teenage girls and he just didn’t want to do away with that image. So he refused to play the role of a stammering, obsessive and aggressive lover, Rahul Mehra. There’s where Yash Chopra thought of signing a nobody and zeroed in on a thin guy with tousled hair to do the role. And thus came Shah Rukh Khan into the film who immortalised KKK…..Kiran. Today may be these two Khans are busy getting even with each other, but Shah

Rukh Khan can’t help but thank Aamir for casually rejecting the role of Rahul Mehra and he bagging it. Darr started his decade-old relationship with the Chopras and gave Indian Cinema one of it’s biggest blockbuster of all time, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Actresses too had their fair share of being suddenly lucky and then getting a thumping win at the box-office. Manisha Koirala won over Madhuri Dixit in bagging the lead role in 1942: A Love Story as Madhs couldn’t impress Vidhu Vinod Chopra with her prowess. It might sound surprising and strange, but it’s a fact which changed Manisha’s career altogether. She suddenly became every filmmaker’s first choice.

Similarly, Rani Mukerji too became a sensation only after a host of A-league actresses refused to star in Karan Johar’ Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Apparently, Rani never crossed Karan Johar’s mind when he wrote the character of Tina for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It was tailor-made for Akshay Kumar’s wife Twinkle Khanna. He had even called the character Tina because it was Twinkle’s nickname. But she refused the role without any concrete reason and nearly everyone from Raveena Tandon to Madhuri Dixit did the same as they didn’t want to play second fiddle to Kajol. That’s when KJo spotted Rani in Ghulam and approached her. For a newcomer, Dharma Productions’ film is a blessing in disguise, and Rani grabbed the offer. When the film released, all the three main leads, Shah Rukh khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji became a rage. Youngsters just couldn’t help but become friends and fall in love, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai style.

Even before the corporate could take-over the industry, remuneration was a major factor while signing on the dotted lines. Stars with only one solo hit would demand unheard-of prices for working in a film, which led many to opt out of virtually prospective projects. And one name that deserves a first mention here is Kareena Kapoor. Even in a time when she was just doing poo-sized roles in multi-starrer film like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Bebo had the guts to ask sky-high price for starring in Karan’s Kal Ho Na Ho. A shocked KJo immediately dumped her and got Preity Zinta on board. PZ badly needed a big budget and big banner movie to survive in the industry and she couldn’t have asked for more. Kareena was later heard nursing her wounds at a party where she admitted the mistake and even patched up with

KJo. Now she’s working in Karan’s film on jehadis but at what price, is still a mystery.

Others in the league were, Raveena Tandon in Mohra which was supposed to be done by Divya Bharti, John Abraham who bagged Water after Akshay Kumar backed out, Saif Ali Khan, who became a star after Hum Tum released which was rejected by Vivek Oberoi, Karisma Kapoor grabbed the National Award for Best Supporting actress for her role of an energetic and high-sprirted girl, in Dil to Pagal Hai. The role was first offered to Urmila Matondkar but she dumped it for Judaai.

In the recent times, Priyanka Chopra got lucky when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan backed out of Karan’s Dostana thinking her relationship with Abhishek would mire the film and so PC stepped into her shoes. Dostana was a huge hit and Priyanka is now the most-sought after heroine in Bollywood.

Whatever may be the cause of stars rejecting a script be or others accepting it, it nevertheless made stars out of mere unknown faces. Had this not been the case, we wouldn’t have the powerful and towering presence of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan looming over the industry, who bail it out every time it’s in trouble.

Abhishek as Tansen!

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, News on April 5, 2009 by nrmodh

The Barjatyas may be lying low after Ek Aur Vivah, but they’re planning to return with their grandest film of all.

To be directed by Satish Kaushik, it will be a bio-pic on the life and music of the legendary musician-singer Tansen who regaled Emperor Akbar’s court in the 16th century. The last important film on Tansen was made in 1943 when K L Saigal immortalised the classical vocalist with his screen presence and voice in a film directed by Jayant Desai. The only actor-singer today is Himesh Reshammiya. But Himesh as Tansen?

Apparently since Kaushik worked with him in Karz, Himesh’s name did come up for consideration. But the Barjatyas, known to be sticklers for protocol and tradition, firmly vetoed the idea. And the mantle has fallen on Abhishek Bachchan.

“He has the look and intensity. He also has the dialogue delivery of his father. And we do need a Tansen who thinks in Hindi and talks the language fluently,” said Satish. That kind of eliminates the Barjatyas’s favourites Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan — who apparently were also considered. But the all-important music score that will require a firm grip over classical elements, is going to another favourite, Ravindra Jain, who did films like Geet Gata Chal and
Chit Chor.

Abhishek’s Breathless Entry and Exit In Kuala Lampur

Posted in Abhishek Bachchan, News on March 21, 2009 by nrmodh
abhishek

Ek raat ki baat….This week Abhishek had just one day’s shooting for Balki’s much-discussed Paa. For that he not only had to rush to Kuala Lampur he also had to completely change his look to a clean-shaven one in contrast to the droopy-mouche look that he sports for Mani Ratnam’s Raavan.

Says Abhishek, “The new clean-shaven look was needed. It was just one day’s shoot for Paa. Now for next week I have to go back to the earlier look for Mani’s look.”

Apparently the Raavan look is a hot favourite among Abhishek’s fans. He has had numerous requests to keep that look permanently. However he needs to sport another look for Abhinay Deo’s untitled film.

So who said being an actor was easy? -Sampurn Media
